University of Dundee
The origins of the University of Dundee go back to 1881, when University College, Dundee was founded.
The College then had a 70-year relationship with the University of St Andrews before it became an independent university in 1967.
It is firmly established as a traditional university, grounded in excellence in teaching and research.
Dundee is a campus university five minutes away from the city centre. The city has a population of 180,000 which means that it is small enough not to be overwhelming but has plenty of demand to support a wide variety of cultural, sporting and shopping facilities.
Academic strengths
Dundee offers the widest range of undergraduate courses in Scotland. There are four academic Colleges at the University of Dundee: Art & Design, Architecture, Engineering & Physical Sciences; Arts and Social Sciences; Life Sciences; and Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.
Facilities
The University of Dundee has an integrated campus where the teaching areas, social facilities, sports centre and guaranteed accommodation are mainly on one central site.
Student life
Dundee is a lively place with more students per head of population than any other city in the UK. Entertainment focuses on the tastes and budgets of students, with a variety of restaurants and cafés, cinemas and theatres as well as excellent sports facilities.
The University was voted the friendliest campus in Scotland by an independent guide. All major faiths have facilities for worship either on-campus or in the city. Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) is the hub of student life, and is run by students for students.
It has entertainment, shopping and welfare services and is the base for university sports clubs and societies.
